Why do cats always seem to land on all fours?

How a cat lands on its feet is due to a balance between their organs in the inner ear and their eyes. It is also due to their flexible bodies and backbone and can usually straighten themselves out in mid-flight on the way down. However, many cats do sustain severe injuries if jumping from very high elevations, for instance, the cat who may jump out of a window to get the bird it's been eyeing.
