The Andean parakeet is a rather vocal species of bird with a rich, low-pitched shrill especially in flight. In the wild, they eat buds, seeds and berries. When mating, they breed in the burrows of steep banks. The female lays about 10 eggs that are kept warm and hatched in about 20 days.
