Honeybear Cat

Honeybear cats pictureHoneybear cats are one of the most popular cat breeds for families with small children. This breed of cats is considered exotic because they started as a laboratory project in California. It is rumored that Ann Baker created this breed of cat after injecting a female Persian with skunk DNA, then breeding the female Persian with a male Persian cat. The result was a cat that is similar to an original Persian with a more personable personality.

Persian cats have large heads with fluffy fur around their faces, just like honeybear cats. When honeybear kittens are born, they have stripes and spots that lighten over the first year of their lives. Ultimately these cats are a light white or brown color. Male honeybears are larger than females, weight between 12 and 14 pounds. Female honeybears are between 10 and 12 pounds. Due to their large size, these cats are great cuddlers, but also enjoy laying on the floor bathing in the sun or resting while you cook dinner. It is this sprawled out look that resembles a bear rug, giving the breed its name "honeybear." These cats are common for families because they are kind and loving with small children and adults.

Breeders and cat lovers will tell you that honeybear cats have similar characteristics to dogs. These cats are not only friendly and want to be loved, but they can also be trained. Using treats and other reward systems, owners can train honeybears to complete tricks, sit and even come when called. Just like with a dog, training is only successful when the time is put into to discipline and train the cat. Aside from training, these cats cannot get enough affection. Male and females want to sit in your lap while watching TV, being petted or groomed. They will give you kisses like dogs and follow you around, nosing into everything you do.

Despite the kind mannerism of this cat and popularity, no notable cat registry officially recognize this breed. This is due to the questions surrounding the breed's creation. Despite this, this exotic cat is regularly available and loved by owners everywhere.
